Schools

We are here to help you to really look, to ask questions, to learn and to enjoy your visit.

General Information

(special note: Please be aware that guided school visits are booking up very quickly and that there are limited sessions available)

Self-Guided visits

All groups must book in advance, whether coming on a self-guided visit or taking part in a Learning team-led session. As there is limited space in the galleries and as it is anticipated that the exhibition will be busy, we ask that you do not lecture in the exhibition space.

The maximum size of a self-guided school visit is two classes or 60 students. Please split larger groups of students into groups of 15 to walk around the gallery. Each group has to be accompanied by a teacher at all times during their visit. We ask that you observe our student to adult ratios and that you put in place the necessary supervision before visiting.

Our ratios are:

  • 1:5 for under 5s
  • 1:10 for 6–11 year-olds
  • 1:15 for 12–16 year-olds
  • 1:20 for 16–18 year-olds

Teachers are responsible for students’ behaviour and safety at all times. All group leaders should carry out their own risk assessment prior to their visit. At no stage can the Turner Prize 2013 assume the formal duty of care on behalf of teachers.

Before you visit

Preliminary visit to the gallery

Please be aware that some of the sections in the Turner Prize exhibition contan some material which may not be deemed suitable for young children and we therefore urge teachers to make a preliminary visit to the exhibition before bringing their students, to decide whether or not it would be suitable for their students.

You can also use our online resources to plan your visit to the gallery.

You may like to book a place on our Teachers Evening on Thursday 24 September to see the exhibition and meet the Learning Team.

Facilitated Visits

We offer four sessions per day, two for Primary schools and two for Post primary schools.

We are delighted to be able to offer free travel to and from the exhibition, courtesy of Translink, for your class if we have enough notice of your booking. This service is offered on a first-come first-served basis and may not be available for each booking.
